Our Activities

The Heritage Centre puts on a range of events and activities, from talks and lectures to a Saturday Club for children. Please phone to book a session or ask for further details.

The Greenwich Heritage Centre runs a free educational service for schools based on the National Curriculum.

We also offer illustrated talks and handling sessions on a variety of topics, including:

  • World War II
  • Local study

Fans: War & Peace

Workshop & talk on fans with a military theme.

Saturday 8 May from 2pm to 4pm :
A fan making workshop, in association
with the Fan Museum. £5 including

Childrens' Saturday Club

Saturday mornings: 10.30am to 12noon
Art and craft activities for five- to 12-year-olds.

A fun way to spend a Saturday morning, with a chance to take part in loads of interesting activities.

Children under the age of five must be accompanied by an adult.

Adult Lectures

A regular programme of Saturday lectures explores the history of the London Borough of Greenwich and with topics ranging from parks to palaces, writers to wrong’uns provides something for everyone. Please telephone the Centre to book a place

Adult Workshops

Workshops are taught by a qualified tutor and provide an opportunity to try different crafts. Please telephone the Centre to book a place.

We want to bring our senior citizens together with our young people to talk about what the world was like and how it has changed.

Free for Greenwich Schools

There is no charge for schools in Greenwich. For schools outside the borough there is a current charge of £1 per child.

Sources for Teachers

We can offer practical help and advice on sources for local aspects of the National Curriculum, for example:

  • Census Returns from 1841
  • Maps from 1700
  • Prints, photographs and postcards from c1860
  • Street Directories from c1900
  • Local Newspapers from 1834
  • Ephemera files on a wide variety of topics
Copies can be made from most of these for use in the classroom, for which there is a small charge.

We welcome visits from teachers and can arrange one-to-one sessions to help your particular project or INSET sessions for groups.
