Travelling to the Heritage Centre

By foot from Woolwich Arsenal Station

By foot from Woolwich Arsenal Station: Turn right out of the station and follow Woolwich New Road to Plumstead Road (signs for
Firepower and Heritage Centre). Cross by the pedestrian crossing, go through the gate to the Royal Arsenal and follow No 1 Street towards the river. The Heritage centre is on the left in the far corner of Artillery Square.

By Train

Trains to Woolwich Arsenal station from London Bridge, Charing X & Cannon St

Five-minute, signposted walk from Woolwich Arsenal to the Heritage Centre.

By Ferry


The Woolwich ferry is a free river crossing service operating between North Woolwich and Woolwich. A ten-minute signposted walk from the Woolwich end takes you to the Heritage Centre.

By Car/Bike

From the West (& North) by car
From the Blackwall Tunnel (A12/A102) take the A206 to Woolwich. When you reach the Woolwich Ferry round-a-bout go straight across (A206 sign posted for Plumstead) and along Woolwich High street.

Go straight across the next roundabout (A206 Beresford St). After a few hundred metres on the left the Royal Arsenal site begins. You will see a black fence showing ‘Royal Arsenal Riverside’. Take the slip road off Plumstead Rd (A206) on the left into Arsenal Way (width restriction) and left into the Town Centre car park (pay and display).

For Greenwich Heritage Centre free car parking (limited spaces), turn left from Arsenal Way, into Duke of Wellington Avenue, then first right into Carriage Street and the car park is signed (Museum Visitors Car Park) on the left hand-side. Please provide your car registration details to Greenwich Heritage Centre reception (this is to avoid a penalty notice and/or clamp).


From the South by car
Take the A205 to Woolwich Ferry round-a-bout and turn right into Woolwich High St (A206) and follow directions as above.


From the East by car
From Plumstead Bridge (Plumstead railway station on the left) (A206) take the right hand lane and follow the road (Pettman Crescent) around Plumstead Bus garage. Take the first left into Tom Cribb Road. Follow the road and go straight across a small round-a-bout and continue into the Royal Arsenal Site. Follow Duke of Wellington Avenue to the Junction of Arsenal Way and turn left into Arsenal Way for the pay and display car park or right into Carriage Street for Greenwich Heritage Centre free car parking.

By Boat to Royal Arsenal Pier

Thames Clippers now run a weekend shuttle service from North Greenwich (Queen Elizabeth Pier at the 02) to Royal Arsenal Pier. Boats run eastbound to Woolwich from 11.05 from the 02 until 17.05pm and westbound to the 02 from 11.25 until 17.25. Departures are every 20 minutes between these times.

Directions From Pay & Display

The Heritage Centre is in the far corner of Artillery Square on the left (about 5 minutes walk).When parked, make your way out of the car park on foot – use the path at the end of the car park past Berkelely Homes Sales and Marketing Suite and turn right down No. 1 Street towards the River. You will see a long building with a green and white façade on the left hand side. To the left of the building you will see a sign ‘Greenwich Heritage Centre’ and the main entrance with large glass doors.

From the car park turn right up Carriage Street to Duke of Wellington Avenue. Turn right here and walk past the Gun Pit Café into Artillery Square. The Greenwich Heritage Centre is straight ahead, in the far right corner, next to the building with a clock face (the Academy).

Parking

When parked, make your way out of the car park on foot – use the path at the end of the car park past Berkelely Homes Sales and Marketing Suite and turn right down No. 1 Street towards the
River.

The main entrance to the Heritage Centre is in the far corner of Artillery Square on the left (about 5 minutes walk).

Motorcycle Parking
Motorcycles may park in the Museum Visitor car park or alternatively there is a dedicated area for motorcycle parking east of the Firepower building, off Cartridge Place to the rear of Building 19A.

Go to the main entrance on Plumstead Road as above and take Arsenal Way to the junction with
Duke of Wellington Avenue. Turn left into Duke of Wellington Avenue and follow the road until
you reach the barrier at the junction with Cartridge Place. Turn Right towards the River. At the
barrier press the button for assistance and ask to be let through to the disabled parking for the Heritage Centre.

Once through the barrier bear to the left past James Clavell Square then right into No 1 Street. Turn left at the end and then left again by the side of the Heritage Centre building.


The Disabled parking bays are about 100m further up on the right. The Heritage Centre main entrance is at the front of the building on the left past the flower beds. Please note blue disabled badges must be displayed otherwise the vehicle will be clamped.


Go to the main entrance on Plumstead Road as above and take Arsenal Way to the junction with Duke of Wellington Avenue. Turn left into Duke of Wellington Avenue and follow the road until you reach the barrier at the junction with Cartridge Place. Turn Right towards the River.
