19th Century Tea Caddy
A Late eighteenth century lozenged shaped single tea caddy in rolled paperwork and wood with an internal lid and a lock. Tea was introduced from China to England in the seventeenth century . Initially tea was extremely expensive and it was not until the late 18th century that imports of tea increased and enabled a wider section of society to enjoy it. Tea caddies were made in the early eighteenth century but it was not until the late eighteenth century when more households were drinking tea that tea caddies were produced in larger numbers so that the precious leaves could be kept fresh and safe.
