Taking care of the trees is an on-going priority at the Charlton House Estate. As a Conservation Area, an annual survey is carried out to check the health and safety of all the trees.

The latest survey has identified that two plane trees next to the Summer House require works, which will be carried out on Friday January 16th 2026. On the same day routine works will be undertaken on plane trees near the Charlton House mulberry tree.

As is usual with any tree works at Charlton House, permission has been sought and granted by the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The works will be carried out by Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust, in partnership with Amber Tree Care. Every effort will be made to ensure minimal disruption, though the road immediately outside the Summer House will have temporary traffic lights until the works are finished.

Care for Charlton House and Gardens’ visitors, local residents, and the wildlife that inhabit the grounds is important – and works will start once it is confirmed that there is no risk to wildlife or public safety.
